Job Title Wheelchair / Ambulette Driver

SUMMARY:  Responsible for providing high quality non-emergency non-medical patient care and wheelchair/stretcher transportation while providing exceptional customer service. Responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of AMC Medical Transportation assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Non-medical operations while demonstrating excellent driving judgment and due regard for public safety during operation and positioning of unit.
  • Responds to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, safe, and efficient manner to quickly assess the scene and request other help if needed.
  • Provides non-medical patient care in accordance with established procedures and prescribed local protocols and clinical practices.
  • May work with a partner and transport patients that require non-medical attendant care.
  • Completes appropriate transportation reports.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of current standards of care, including mapping, street, and grid book systems.
  • Maintains unit and equipment in a clean, organized and ready condition after each response.
  • Ensures proper fuel, fluid, and tire pressure levels at all times.  Reports equipment damage or malfunctions as prescribed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be able to communicate and understand English verbally and in writing

Licenses and Certifications (must be valid, current and/or in good standing)

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR (AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider or ARC CPR for Professional Rescuers)
  • City license where required
  • Hack License

 

SKILLSSkills as required to practice as an Non-Medical Driver / Attendant as defined by assigned state and/or local government scope of practice.

  • work with partner in lifting patients whose weight occasionally exceeds 300 pounds
  • strength required but not limited to arms, legs, and shoulders to lift, push and pull patients with and without assistance at various times.
  • avoid or minimize health risks and exposure for all Blood borne Pathogens and other airborne pathogens including MRSA by using personal protective equipment
  • Use of patient movement equipment including wheelchairs and stretchers, equipment lifts and restraining devices
  • Exercise good judgment, dexterity and physical coordination
  • Preparing clear and concise  reports
